Michael Commins

Special Counsel

Growing up in Junee, Michael joined his family’s law firm in 1990 and practiced as a litigation lawyer at Commins Hendriks’ Wagga office until 2007. After suffering an accident, he returned to practice in Junee with his family.

Michael, an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury, has extensive experience in representing and advising employers, local government institutions, and commercial property owners in lawsuits. He is particularly recognised for his experience in advising commercial clients on acquisition matters.

He also enjoys working for families managing the 500-acre farm, or undertaking the detective work for community volunteer associations untangling historic title deeds.

“It’s not just high stakes – litigation or the High Court challenges – it’s about how the law affects everyday people on a day-to-day basis. It may seem small, but these matters are important to them.”

“I’m passionate about rural communities, and about repurposing and revitalising the small communities,” he says.

Every day, Michael meets his father Fred, now retired from practice, for lunch at the historic Junee Railway Station café. Michael is a fourth-generation lawyer, and the Commins Hendriks firm is the result of a merger of his family’s practice, which his great-grandfather Frederick Commins founded in Junee in 1902.

“Tradition is a wonderful thing,” he adds, having practiced law in his local community for 25 years. “It is the foundation upon which families form and grow. And being able to look back on our own family’s contribution to this profession over many, many years instils a sense of pride in what we have achieved.”
